April 2015 Round Up

This has been the busiest April ever! Every year for some reason April is the most creative month of the year with lots of exciting things happening - it is now three years since the Quartet album ‘Abandoned Silence’ was launched! Time flies when you are having fun, and this April was no exception with the LINCOMPASS LONDON tour by the Andrew Linham Jazz Orchestra.

From the 18th - 26th April the big band travelled around London performing at different venues playing a selection of new original compositions as well as the standard ALJO pad which included a few select excerpts from the Linferno Suite. The tour was well received by all venues and audiences, some people coming to several different legs of the tour.

The band took the music, particularly the new tunes in their stride and the whole tour was an absolute joy. I have been so lucky to have so many fantastic musicians in the band, they all played so brilliantly! Interestingly some musicians likened it to playing a show in the pit band as you never really know what is coming next. I blame Big Bertha for that!

For some photos of the tour, check out my mid-tour blog post HERE, see photos on Instagram or hear a new tune ‘I Arksque You This’ on Soundcloud.

Other fantastic gigs I’ve been involved with have been playing with the Gabriel Garrick Big Band at the Hideaway on April 12th. This had Pete Cater on drums who is incredible - the Buddy Rich of England! Last night the London City Big Band again tore up the Spice of Life with some amazing playing from all involved. MIMIKA were also at the Spice of Life on April 8th which saw Mak Murtic bringing a post-punk russian futurist rapper (dressed in a white trench coat and steampunk goggles) to the gig to rap over one of the new tunes. It was quite a spectacle to see indeed!

I’ve also been reviewed by Ian Maund of Sandybrown Jazz which you can read here! An illuminating article on the mad-busy lifestyle I lead!

This month has also seen me busy in theatre with rehearsals for Seussical the Musical at the Queens Theatre Hornchurch in July, a new writing project with a theatre designer and director (which is still currently top secret!) and taking Edelweiss Pirates for which I was MD and Composer on tour to Arts Depot which was again received successfully.

I also went to see the Avengers movie which is incredible and I thoroughly endorse MARVEL movies!

Looking ahead.....

So, bring on a busy May with the following exciting gigs:

Thursday 7th May - MIMIKA @ Vortex Jazz Club
Sunday 10th May - Big Band Metheny @ Pizza Express Jazz Club
Wednesday 13th May - MIMIKA @ Spice of Life
Thursday 28th May - London City Big Band @ Spice of Life

There are other gigs in the diary but I’ll mostly be in rehearsals for Seussical the Musical! Bring on another mad month!

Thanks for the support of everyone who has made this month amazing. Without the players and the audiences, we have no live music so thank you to all involved!
