The Year Of The Big Band

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to 2016. This is going to be a very exciting year already, just looking at the exciting projects appearing in my diary over the coming weeks and months!

The biggest news of this year is of course that the Andrew Linham Jazz Orchestra are recording their debut album. This is my second album as a leader after releasing my quartet album ‘Abandoned Silence’ in 2012, performing to packed houses.

Robert Shore of Jazzwise magazine said of it :

“It’s a neat set of originals, mixing poised, tender balladry and more uptempo boppish material.” “The lineage from Kenny Garrett is evident. Whether on rapid-fire or slow-burn setting, Linham is a musician of tremendous invention and flow.” Robert Shore - Jazzwise Review - May 2012

Having listened to some bootleg recordings of the big band made from the tour last April, I can really see how different my composition style is compared to this CD and am so excited to get the band into the studio for two days in early February. It is quite an event to organise that many people to all be in the same place at the same time and I’m really looking forward to it.

If you have a favourite tune and you would like us to record it on the album do not hesitate to contact me as feedback from the audience is appreciated! Lots of people have already submitted suggestions and it is amazing how similar they are - spot the crowd favourites.

Once the CD is recorded we will be doing a CD Launch party, and then hopefully a tour! More details when we have them!!

Aside of this, I’m busy again working with the London City Big Band, MIMIKA Mak Murtic Ensemble and my quartet alongside some writing projects for some theatre shows, and some MDing!

Currently I’m working on a production of Barry Manilow’s Copacabana! If that doesn’t keep the wintery blues away, I don’t know what will.

Here’s to 2016, may it be everything we hope for!
